Jolly Phonics

Jolly Phonics uses synthetic phonics to teach students the 42 main sounds in the English language.

 

The course is broken up into 6 Levels which incorporates the skills taught in the Phonics Handbook and the Grammar Handbook 1 and 2.

 

Students are taught the 5 basic skills for reading and writing through sound recognition, blending, grammar and dictation.

 

Each lesson students are taught new vocabulary relating to the sounds that they are taught.

 

Students are taught sentence structure and grammar in an easy to remember way!

 

By learning phonics your child will be able to improve their pronunciation and pronounce new words using blending techniques. They will also gain confidence in reading which should also improve their ability to spell new words and speak in English.

 

Jolly Phonics Level 1 teaches the single sounds in the English language, dictation and blending.

 

Jolly Phonics Level 2 teaches the double sounds (two letters used to make one sound) in the English language, dictation and blending.

 

Jolly Phonics Level 3 teaches phonic sounds, magic ‘e’, dictation, vocabulary lists, sentence writing and introduces  grammar.

 

Jolly Phonics Level 4 teaches double sounds, dictation, vocabulary lists, sentence writing and grammar.

 

Jolly Phonics Level 5 teaches phonic sounds, silent letters, dictation, vocabulary lists, improving sentence writing and grammar.

 

Jolly Phonics Level 6 teaches phonic sounds, dictation, vocabulary lists, expanding sentences and grammar.

toddler Phonics

Toddler Phonics introduces phonic sounds, new vocabulary and pictures in a fun and educational way!

 

Students will learn about English and the alphabet through repetition, play, toys, singing, flash cards and objects.

 

Jolly songs, children’s songs, play experiences and storybooks are also incorporated into this course.

 

This is a fun, friendly and educational 45 minute course suitable for Toddlers from the age of 2.

 

Each student needs to be accompanied by a parent or caretaker.

junior english a-z!

Junior English A-Z teaches the students the letters of the alphabet and introduces the sounds for each letter.

 

English is the key focus of Junior English and is spoken throughout each lesson. Students are taught basic vocabulary and girls and boys names.

 

Students learn how to write capital and lower case letters. Tracing is incorporated into the class to improve letter formation and re-emphasize the vocabulary taught in each lesson.

 

Students learn word and picture recognition and how to expand their English vocabulary and conversation skills.

 

The course includes songs and activities for each lesson.

 

Junior English caters to children from the age of 3 years old.

reading comprehension

The Reading Comprehension course covers a variety of books such as ORT storybooks, Penguin Readers, Longman and also

features stories by famous authors such as Roald Dahl.

 

Students are taught to read confidently and how to improve their pronunciation.

 

Students learn new vocabulary and how to understand the books that they read.

creative writing

Creative writing teaches students to write independently and gives them the confidence to be creative.

 

The course develops the student’s ability to write in a variety of formats such as story writing, poems, plays, reports and adventure stories.

 

Students are taught how to expand on their writing skills by teaching them a variety of writing techniques. Grammar points such as tense and parts of speech are also taught throughout the course.

 

The classes are interactive, imaginative and designed so that the students can think and write independently.

 

The Creative writing course is divided into 3 Levels and students can start the course when they are in P1.

oral and conversation skills

Our oral and conversation classes give students the confidence and ability to develop their English oral skills. Students are taught a variety of oral skills such as self introduction and giving a presentation.

 

Students are taught how to use ‘wh’ question words in their conversation to develop their ability to ask and answer questions.

 

The classes cover a variety of grammar points such as using the correct tense and word order.

 

Students are taught skills to improve their pronunciation and voice projection.

 

The class covers a variety of topics such as day to day activities, family, free time activities, different types of greetings and answering commonly used questions.

cambridge examinations

Cambridge Starters, Movers and Flyers are internationally recognized exams for students from the age of 4 years old.

 

Students are taught vocabulary on a variety of topics and learn how to ask and answer questions.

 

Cambridge YLE covers four key areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing.

 

Tests are designed to make learning fun and children are encouraged by working towards certificates and earning the 'shields' that record their progress.

 

Their studies should make reading, listening and speaking in English come naturally.

 

As each student’s confidence develops, they will want to learn more and use English to a more challenging level.

 

Students are given several practice exams throughout the course and feedback from the teacher.

 

Students need to be able to read and write to take this exam.

trinity guildhall examinations

speech and drama

Trinity Guildhall offers a variety of types of exams such as acting and speaking; speech and drama, performing text, choral speaking and communication skills.

 

Trinity Guildhall 's grade, certificate and diploma qualifications in drama, speech and musical theatre, provide a structured framework to encourage and assess students in the progressive mastery of a wide range of performance skills.

 

Trinity Guildhall Examinations are recognised internationally. Students will receive a mark and certificate upon successful completion of the exam.

 

Young Performers (4-6 year olds), is split up into three levels:

Bronze, Silver and Gold.

 

The emphasis is on rewarding and celebrating participation, and all entries for examination will receive an award. The group will present a short performance, such as telling a story, using a variety of performance skills.

 

The Trinity Guildhall Speech and Drama graded exams are broken up into 3 stages;

 

Foundation (Grades 1-3)

Intermediate (Grades 4-5)

Advanced (Grades 6-8).

 

Trinity Guildhall exams allow students the complete freedom of choice for performance items. These include acting and poetry-speaking, sight-reading or story-telling and improvisation. Followed by a discussion of the selections including theory with the examiner.

gese (oral)

The Graded Examinations in Spoken English test candidates' ability in listening and speaking.

 

They are one-to-one oral examinations with a native English-speaking Trinity examiner from the UK.

 

There are 12 grades altogether which are linked to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

 

There are four stages with three grades at each stage;

Initial (Grades 1-3)

Elementary (Grades 4-6)

Intermediate (Grades 7-9)

Advanced (Grades 10-12).

 

GESE exams test fluency and accuracy and the student’s ability to communicate with the examiner.

 

Students are taught a variety of topics such as day to day activities, sports, holidays and family. Students learn how to communicate, ask and answer questions and present a variety of topics using vocabulary and grammar skills.

 

Candidates must be at least 4 years old at the time of registering for GESE Grade 1. Candidates must be at least 5 years old to sit GESE Grade 2 and above.

speech festival

Students are taught the basic principles needed to present a poem or speech for various Speech festivals in Hong Kong.

 

Students are taught the type and meaning of their poem, they are also given tips for speaking and voice projection.  Stance, tone, pauses and pronunciation are covered in each class.

 

Students are given vocal tips and exercises to strengthen their voice and pronunciation.

 

The teacher will give feedback and comments for the students each class and the lesson is recorded for the students to practice at home.

interview skills

This interview course is designed to assist students in interviews for Kindergarten, Primary School, Secondary School and International School.

 

The focus of this course is to enhance each child’s analytical skills and ability to communicate.

 

The course covers literature and story appreciation which further improve the students’ interactive skills.

 

We also focus on reading comprehension and writing skills. Many of our students have been successfully admitted to renowned schools in Hong Kong.
